“SiGMA Europe 2022 was one of our biggest events to date:” Emily Micallef, SiGMA Group

Did the results of this edition exceed your expectations?

Absolutely. This year Malta Week 2022 welcomed 25,000 international delegates from a plethora of industries during this traditionally cold shoulder month - paving the way for SiGMA to become the World’s Authority in iGaming. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive - the amount of business done was second to none, and turnout was one for the books, making it one of our biggest events to date.

What are the main differences with the edition of last year?

After listening to a lot of feedback, we opened a number of new early badge collection points - which allowed delegates to beat first day queues. We also doubled the size of the food court, providing more variety - including vegan and vegetarian options. We were really excited to welcome 300+ affiliates to Malta this year. As part of our 300 Spartans campaign we flew over 300 top tier affiliates to SiGMA Europe and treated them to an all-inclusive VIP stay. This offered a valuable opportunity for affiliates and operators to forge solid ties and explore new business.

What do you consider were the highlights of this show?

We had some really terrific speakers at our conferences this year, such as Scott Stornetta and the Hon. Minister of Finance for Curacao, Javier Francisco Antonio Silvania. We were also pleased to welcome guests of honour, such as H.E Barbara Akoukor Benisa, High Commissioner of Ghana and football legend Roberto Carlos. Throughout the week we held a number of gala awards nights, which in addition to acknowledging this year’s greatest industry achievements also hosted several charitable auctions. We are extremely proud to say that the SiGMA Foundation raised a total of 109,500. These funds will go towards several goodwill projects, including the funding of a school in Ethiopia - which the Foundation will inaugurate this coming January.

What challenges did you have during the preparation of this expo? And the challenges for the next Expo Summit Europe for next year?

An event of this size is always a challenge, especially when striving to maintain the high standards our delegates have come to expect from the SiGMA brand. Our teams start working on any event well in advance, allowing us to ensure we execute everything to a high level of quality. With years of experience and skill between the team, the SiGMA Squad is a key part of our continued success.

Having outgrown last year’s venue we made the decision to hold our verticals across two different locations during Malta Week 2022. Our mantra ‘friends before business’ is at the heart of everything we do - offering a quality experience continues to remain top of our agenda. We are already seeing huge demand from new operators and suppliers to exhibit next year - maintaining this organic growth without compromising on quality will undoubtedly be one our biggest challenges moving forward.
